Nightjar Female
Common Lizard
You wouldn’t believe the amount of people that live in the Uk that still don’t even know that we have Lizards in this country. There was a time that I didn’t know either, and upon finding my fist as a child, that moment will forever stay with me.
Nightjar Backlit
Firecrest in Song
An under-recorded bird, often overlooked for being their common cousins (Goldcrest) but these beautiful birds show more colour where it matters and sport an extra white eye-stripe, making that colourful crest stand out even more. This photo was taken as part of a small study on mimicking birds as this is the second individual that I’ve recorded singing both Firecrest and Goldcrest song.
Sawfly Larvae
My Rose bush took a hit this year as a fair amount of Sawfly laid their eggs in the stems. Upon hatching, these larvae took over and devoured quite a bit, but the Rose survived for another year.
Sparrowhawk Up-close
Not very often you get this close to a Sparrowhawk but after a failed attempt at catching a Sparrow on the bird feeders, it landed just metres from the hide in beautiful sunlight.
Dark Bush-Cricket
They come in different colour phases, ranging from light slate grey to dark brown. This is the common dark phase and it’s a female showing her huge ovipositor used to lay her eggs. Dark Bush-Crickets are one of the only species of Cricket in the Uk that continues to chirp throughout the night, and in the day time, seeks out the shade. They are adapted to the colder temperatures unlike the Roesel’s Bush-Cricket that needs day time warmth in order to produce their sound. This for me makes the Dark Bush-Cricket an iconic British species, and the warm summer nights aren’t the same without them.
Water Rail dancing on ice
Why did the Water Rail walk across the ice? Literally.. to get to the other side lol, where the water had melted in the sun, allowing it to feed in the shallows.
Slow Worm with Lunch
Midday snack in my friends Garden. ‘Life that leaf he said’ and there it was, almost as small as the worm in which it was devouring. Fantastic species that’s actually a legless Lizard rather than a worm or a snake. If you look closely, they have eyelids and teeth just like a Lizard.
Osprey Balancing Act
An amazing experience getting close to our native Fish Hawks. Ospreys are a world wide loved species and it was an absolute pleasure to have photographed three Juveniles on my home patch.
Mottled Grasshopper
One of the coolest patterned Grasshoppers in the Uk, they vary in shade, colour and pattern.

Turnstone Tide
Just like the tide, when something is so strong, you can’t fight it, you just have to work with it and the same applied here with the backlighting from the white waves. Turned out to be one of my favourite images.

Eye Level Adder
My first sighting of Adders, basking on a beautiful sunny spring morning. I didn’t really have the right lens for the job, so took my chances with my macro lens and so long as no shadow was casted on them, they were completely fine with me, just 10 inches away from their face!

Adder 'Hotspot'
At first I thought this was one big snake, till the second head appeared from the leaf litter. These are two Males, so to see them huddle up like this was special, considering they’ll be squabbling over a female soon.
Winter Polypore Thawing Morning Frost
The intended image was meant to be a frosty mushroom, but by the time I relocated the shroom, it had all melted in the morning sun.
Winter Great Spotted Woodpecker
Snow immediately sets the mood of this photo for me and the fact that the Male Woodpecker is slightly puffed up to keep insulated. This is my favourite woodpecker image by far.
